gets "Krishi Karman" award in rice category
• Jharkhand has been selected for
"Krishi Karman" award in the rice category from the Union Ministry of Agriculture.
• The
award to be given away in February next year carries a cash prize of Rs 2 crore
and a citation.
• Each
farmer would be given a cash award of Rs 2 lakh along with citation.
India's
first private UAV factory comes up in Hyderabad
• India'
first private sector unit for manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) opened at Adani Aerospace Park.
• Built
by the Adani Group and Israel-based Elbit Systems, the 50,000 square feet
facility will develop Hermes 900 medium
altitude long-endurance UAVs for the Indian and global markets.
• The
unit will begin with the manufacture of complete carbon composite
aerostructures for Hermes 900, followed
by Hermes 480, catering to global markets.
President of
India lays foundation stone of Kevadia Railway Station in Narmada, Gujarat
• President
Ramnath Kovind laid the foundation stone of new ultra modern Railway Station at
Kevadia in Narmada district of Gujarat.
• The
station will connect the Statue of Unity project to the rest of India through
broad gauge railway line.
• As
par schedule 32 kilometers long new broad-gauge railway line between Chandod
and Kevadia will be completed in one year and connect the Kevadia with the rest
of country.
• This
will also provide better rail connectivity towards Statue of Unity project to
facilitate the national and international tourists.
• This
will also boost the overall development of this tribal region along with new
employment opportunities.
Nepal bans
use of Indian Currency Notes above Rs. 100
• The
Nepal government has banned the use of
Indian currency notes of Rs.2,000, Rs. 500
and Rs. 200 denominations, according to a
media report.
• The
government has asked the people to refrain from keeping or carrying Indian bank
notes higher than Rs. 100 denomination as it has not legalised them, The
Kathmandu Post quoted Minister for Information and Communications Gokul Prasad
Baskota as saying.
• The
decision can affect Nepalese labourers working in India as well as Indian
tourists
visiting Nepal.
• The
Indian government introduced notes of Rs. 2,000, Rs. 500 and Rs. 200
denominations after demonetisation in 2016.
Author Amitav Ghosh honoured with
54th Jnanpith Award
• Noted
English writer Amitav Ghosh has been honoured with the Jnanpith Award for
"outstanding contribution towards
literature“.
• His
most recent book, "The Great Derangement; Climate Change and the
Unthinkable, a work of non-fiction", was released in 2016.
• The
decision to honour Mr. Ghosh was taken at a meeting of the Jnanpith Selection
Board
chaired by novelist and Jnanpith laureate
Pratibha Ray.
• Mr
Ghosh is also recipient of the Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award.
Centre
extends tenure of R&AW and Intelligence Bureau Chiefs
• For
the first time, the centre has extended the tenure of top officials of the
Research &
Analysis Wing (R&AW) and the Intelligence
Bureau, two important institutions entrusted
with safeguarding India's external and
internal security networks.

Pakistan to
host 2020 Asia Cup; final venue unclear
• The
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have awarded the hosting rights for the Asia Cup in
2020 to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). However, the final venue for the
tournament remains unclear over whether it will be played in Pakistan or the
UAE.

decision was made in the Bangladesh capital with the ACC president Nazmul
Hassan Papon.
